Sébastien Bacquias

Sébastien 'Bakus' Bacquias is one of the most recognised and unique figures on the French music scene, and a double bass player. He bases his music and experiments on the raw sound of the double bass, combining sharp attacks and elegant touches. He studied in Dijon in the 1990s, earning a bachelor's degree in musicology.
During this time, he also studied classical double bass and orchestral music at the Dijon conservatoire, and he holds a DEM in jazz and contemporary music. For 25 years, his double bass has graced stages across Europe and Africa. He has participated in a multitude of projects ranging from rock and improvised music to jazz, free jazz, chanson, hip-hop and world music.
His musical practice is multidisciplinary, notably in collaboration with circus artists such as Jérôme Thomas and Frank Tenot, as well as poets and street theatre groups like 26000 Couverts. Currently based in the Pyrenees, he plays the viola da gamba and is an active member of the Toulouse-based musicians' collective Freddy Morezon.
