Mathieu Sourisseau

As a bassist and guitarist, Mathieu Sourisseau has always placed encounters and dialogue with different cultures and musical genres at the heart of his musical practice. He pays particular attention to voices, whether in traditional music, spoken word or blues.
After meeting Ethiopian singer Etenesh Wassié first through Le Tigre des Platanes (Zéraf, Buda Musique) and then as a duo (Belo Belo, Buda Musique), Mathieu Sourisseau was recognised for his distinctive bass playing and the sincerity of his musical commitment. In 2012, he invited the Chicago-based drummer Hamid Drake to join their duo, completing the fundamental triangle linking Europe, Africa and America.
In 2016, he invited cellist Julie Läderach to collaborate on a new project (Yene Alem, Buda Musique), and since 2018, the duo has continued to explore Ethiopian music with double bassist Sébastien Bacquias.
Mathieu Sourisseau took part in 'The Bridge', an improvised music exchange between France and Chicago. Chicago tour 2014. Tours in France in 2016 and 2019. It was in this context that he met American rapper Mike Ladd and proposed a collaboration. In 2019, the Reverse Winchester duo was formed, exploring minimalist folk-blues-noise in the simplest formation of amplified acoustic guitar and vocals (two albums on Mr Morezon).
In 2015, he formed the group Facteur Sauvage with Daniel Scalliet (vocals), Laurent Paris (drums) and himself.
