Facteur Sauvage (Augmented) is an electric animal, made to blend sweat and poetry. The quintet draws on a raw sound mixing primitive rock and alternative blues. The two horns that have joined the original trio both bolster its relentless riffs and unleash wild improvisations.
Whatever ground they choose to explore, these five musicians bring with them a wealth of diverse experience from the independent scene, whether rooted in garage rock, free jazz or spoken word. Sung, chanted, recited or whispered, the words conjure up Anglo-Saxon imagery alongside poems delivered in their original French. Language takes its place at the table, in barns and clubs where the lines between a dance-driven set and poetry made for listening are joyfully blurred.
Facteur Sauvage (Augmented) seeks meaning through literature made flesh, propelled by bass guitar, prepared drums and blasts of breath, all moving as one — radically raw and radically tender.
“Don’t fall asleep until you’re dead,” went the original motto. “And don’t look back: we are she-wolves and wolves, hungry for love.”
The quintet is on a sonic mission. Come Together. Stand Our Ground. Make Sense. Nothing is left to the disenchanted slumber of the world. Everything is a matter of shoulders and vertebral harmonies. We remain ghosts at full gallop amid the ruins, somewhere between strength and tenderness.

Pendant le confinement imposé par le coronavirus et généralisé de mars à mai 2020, Daniel Scalliet écrit un
poème par jour. Il passe commande également, sous forme de carte blanche, d'improvisations à des amis
musiciens. Les mots et les sons sont réunis, nait alors une collection d'instantanés éclairés, laconiques et
sensibles.
« Nous ne nous étions pas dit grand-chose, mes camarades et moi, dispersés entre Dijon et Toulouse. Le
confinement attisait nos solitudes. Mais notre silence fut bref. Ils m’envoyèrent des petites pièces sonores,
morceaux choisis, improvisés, concoctés dans le secret des instruments de chacun. Et j’écrivis un texte par
jour, aux aguets, sur une table haute de cuisine. Et naquirent ces poèmes en musique. Et je sentis leurs
épaules proches. Et un soulèvement léger. Nous n’étions plus affairés. Nous n’étions plus ensemble. Mais
nous restions intimes. Entre un corps empaillé, une taxidermie cérébrale et une sidération proche du
fantôme, nous avons soufflé nos braises tenues à l’écart. Avec nos poings. Et nos bulbes. Et notre beauté sur
des ruines avec vue. »

Avec un tel pedigree, ce trio improbable ne peut décemment pas faire une musique aseptisée, formatée et innocente, ce serait contre-nature. Facteur Sauvage, c’est un mélange de jazz fantomatique, genre Tom Waits scrofuleux, de blues dégénéré, genre Captain Beefheart extatique, d’avant-garde bastringue, genre the Ex déviant, de noise démembrée, genre Sonic Youth halluciné.
Pour entrer en transe sans utiliser de substances prohibées, Facteur Sauvage, c’est de première bourre. Et, une fois que vous êtes dans un état second, c’est là que la magie opère, que vous entrez de plain-pied dans vos rêves les plus dingues, ou vos cauchemars les plus expressifs, les plus radicaux n’étant pas forcément ceux que vous attendiez. Facteur Sauvage sont de fiers guerriers de l’accord déstructuré, d’altiers gladiateurs de l’arpège abrasif, d’arrogants chevaliers de la mélodie bouleversifiée, à la fois Attila, Spartacus et Prince Noir en route pour une petite virée raboteuse et chaotique dans des contrées à peine défrichées par la civilisation. De quoi entretenir une légende et passer à la postérité.

Facteur Sauvage, musical anomaly, poetic virus, self-made sound. A raw, compact trio. A sound straight from the tubes of homemade amplification, carried by a voice heated to white. Spoken word or song, the words bounce off a prepared bass and drums section, fed by primitive blues and rock.
In concert, Facteur Sauvage gently grabs us by the ear and gradually shakes us until we end up sweating. A warm-blooded animal, the trio kicks up clouds of dust between tender and wild tracks. Their music creates an evocative, almost narrative or cinematographic atmosphere, taking us on an initiatory road movie, between smoky bars and endearing fairground characters...
Willy Wolf, l'homme qui va mourir (2019)
In 2019, Facteur Sauvage has plunged headlong into the creation of a new work inspired by the Nantes character and urban myth of Willy Wolf. Willy Wolf, a self-proclaimed world champion diver, made his living by selling postcards of himself posing with a skull and a crossbones and an unsparing invitation: "Buy the man who is going to die". He invited locals with a taste for physical prowess and reckless danger to perform feats that would make him a trompe l'oeil. That's how he became known in the city of Nantes. On 31 May 1925, at the age of 27, he stood on the bridge of the Nantes Transbordeur in front of 50,000 spectators. After a few balancing acts above the void, he ignited his belt and jumped 55 metres... The crowd and the Gaumont theatre, present for this unique event, witnessed a living death. The living torch became a comet and the comet disappeared into the Loire. A myth was born.
But did Willy Wolf die that day? Or did he go on to other underwater adventures? For Facteur Sauvage, this story is more than just a news item. The spectacle of death is of little importance. It's the impulse of this son of Polish immigrants, a fitter by trade, a dreamy acrobat, a braggart in the markets, that appeals. He tells us something else. A little man who stands up to his humanity. A story to be told again and again. A dream that corrects the world of reality.
Facteur Sauvage has taken on the task of writing music and shouting from the rooftops around Willy Wolf, creating new pieces based on the film of this story. It's a kind of imaginary cinema concert in which a sparse instrumentarium and an eager audience must join forces in a communion of rage. The aim is to bring out this man's rage for life, his taste for risk, his enchanting poetry, his conquest of courage and the whole range of possibilities...
